Gardening – Keeping Containers Looking Good

By Michael Russell The most inspiring container displays are grown by gardeners who have developed a real feel for their plants and can tell at a glance when they are in need of water, food, a bigger pot or just a good tidy up. If you play doctor with them, your plant will reward you with luxuriant growth. Professional growers achieve this by keeping their plants growing steadily throughout the seasons, so they never suffer from a check in growth by being starved or dried out. It’s not rocket science but having a few pieces of essential maintenance equipment to hand is one of the keys to success. A well balanced, long necked watering can turns watering from a chore to a pleasure. A fine rose on the end of the spout is ideal for soaking seedlings and plug plants without washing them away. Give container grown plants a liquid feed every seven to ten days. If this seems too much of a commitment use push in feed pellets that deliver nutrients every time you water during the growing season. Water retaining granules can also be mixed into the potting compost before planting up. They are especially useful for hanging baskets or window boxes on south facing sills where they can make the difference between watering once rather than twice a day during hot, windy weather. Just as having a dog to walk gets you up in the morning, so will having a mobile garden to tend to. Get into a watering routine and you will make light work of it. Water in the morning or evening to reduce evaporation and try to avoid splashing the leaves as this will cause them to scorch when exposed to strong sunlight. At holiday time, move your containers to a shady wall and stand them on special moisture retentive capillary matting fed from a tin bath of water. In the Autumn, winter and spring months, plants need much less water, although it is surprising how a series of hard frosts can strip the moisture from the compost and this can only be replenished when the compost has thawed out. When the weather’s particularly severe, it pays to gather your containers under a warm house wall where they will escape the worst of the weather. Deadhead your plants regularly as soon as flowers fade. This will encourage a fresh flush of flower buds. Spent flowers left on the plant will usually inhibit further flower production, however, not all spent flowers need to be removed. Busy Lizzies and those super vigorous petunias carry on regardless. Some like marigolds can be snapped off. Others like pansies and nasturtiums can be nipped off by pinching them with your fingernails. For bushy fuschias and chrysanthemums with lots of blooms, pinch back shoots regularly. Do this by simply nipping off the tips of the shoots. At the end of summer be ruthless and throw annuals past their best onto the compost heap. However, some plants sold for bedding can be propagated from cuttings in late summer or dug up and over-wintered in a frost free greenhouse or porch. They have the potential to get bigger and better every year. Mindfulness and Pain: Just Say Ouch

By Maya Talisman Frost What’s the best way to manage pain? Just say ouch. That’s a simplified description of the role of mindfulness in reducing the experience of pain. The secret isn’t in focusing on the painful sensation itself. No, the power is in recognizing our tendency to say way more than ouch. Here’s the basic math: Suffering = Pain + Resistance. Can mindfulness reduce the sensation of pain? Not exactly, but it can markedly reduce the total suffering we experience by illuminating–and even eliminating–our resistance. Pain is a warning. It informs and motivates us. If you’re resting your hand on a hot stovetop, it’s important to feel that pain in order to remove your hand quickly and avoid burns. We need the sensation of pain to protect our bodies from further injury. Pain also teaches us new ways to move. If you are consistently hurting your back on the weekend, your pain is letting you know that 1) you need to rest and 2) you need to learn a healthier way to work or play. Chronic pain is more difficult. It is hard to find any redeeming value in long-term pain. We’ve learned our lessons already, but it persists, and there’s not much that can be done about it. Mindfulness is extremely valuable in alleviating the experience of all kinds of pain but it is especially effective for those likely to hurt on a daily basis. We feel pain. We say ouch–mentally or verbally. Then what happens? We get wrapped up in ways to resist the pain. We start a mental dialogue about how we’re going to deal with it (medication, ice, heat, rest, acupuncture, massage, magnetic therapy, etc.). Then, we get caught in thoughts and emotions: Disappointment (“Now I can’t go hiking.”) Worry (“I hope it’s nothing serious.”) Fear (“What if it gets worse?”) Anger (“Why is it hurting now? I already had surgery!”) Depression (“What if I have to stop playing tennis?”) Excitement (“I’m going into labor!”) Our resistance stirs up a lot more tension, resulting in a much more pronounced experience of the pain. Worrying about pain really does make it worse. This is where mindfulness comes in. By paying attention to the thoughts and emotions that accompany pain, you can learn to separate these from the sensation. Once you’ve done that, you can actually eliminate the tension and see the pain for what it is–and no more. By seeing the internal dialogue that comes with pain, you can learn to handle it skillfully and reduce your suffering. The next time you feel pain, take a moment to focus on it. Watch your thoughts and emotions as they come up. Breathe. And go back to ouch. Simple pain never felt so good. Maya Talisman Frost is a mind masseuse in Portland, Oregon. Fair Debt Collection Practices Act

By Steve Austin The purpose of the Act, approved in September 1977, was to eliminate abusive debt collection practices by debt collectors and to promote consistent state action to protect consumers against debt collection abuses and invasions of individual privacy. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act laid down specific guidelines pertaining to the following procedures: 1. Acquisition Of Information [Sec 804] Any debt collector seeking to acquire location information of a consumer would identify himself and his purpose correctly and if the need arises also disclose his employer. At no point during the inquiry process shall the collector state or imply that a consumer owes any debt, as this shall amount to invasion of individual privacy. Once the enquiry process has been completed, any correspondence thereafter shall be with the attorney of the said consumer only. 2. Communication With the Consumer [Sec 805] The debt collector may not communicate with the consumer at any such place or time, which may be known to be inconvenient to the consumer. If the collector has information that an attorney represents the consumer, then any communication with the consumer should be done only if the attorney fails to respond to the collector’s communication. 3. Abuse Or Harassment Of The Consumer [Sec 806] A debt collector may not engage in any conduct the natural consequence of which is to harass, oppress, or abuse any person in connection with the collection of a debt. A collector may not resort to acts of violence or threats thereof in order to coerce the consumer into obliging to the collector. 4. Misrepresentation For Debt Collection [Sec 807] A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt. The debt collector may not represent or in any way implicate that nonpayment of the debt will result in the arrest or imprisonment of any person or the seizure, attachment or sale of any property of any person unless such action is lawful and the debt collector or creditor intends to take such action. 5. Debt Validation [Sec 809] Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer, the debt collector shall send the consumer a written notice containing the exact amount of debt, the name of the creditor and the due date of payment. 6. Civil Liability [Sec 813] Any debt collector who fails to comply with any provision of this act is liable to such person in an amount equal to the extent of actual damage to the consumer and may be liable to pay the consumer the defendant attorney’s fees reasonable in relation to the work expended and costs. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act provides guidelines for all kinds of debt collection. For all debt collectors, be in-house or collection agencies, it is must to understand the act and stay within the legally permitted boundaries. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act has enough provisions for collection agencies and departments to help them get the dues from the debtors legally. Contact Lenses and Eye Glasses, How is Your Vision?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alan_Winters] Alan Winters Notice friends getting contact lenses and pulling out eye glasses? What do you recommend? I find myself asking people what looks good to them, what do they recommend or can they summarize the directions on a medicine bottle more often now than ever before. Its called presbyopia. This happens when the eyes gradually lose the ability to focus on near objects. You may first notice presbyopia, farsightedness, trying to read a menu in a dark restaurant or working on your computer, adjusting the distance to reduce eye strain. At first you may think trouble reading is temporary or at least wont get worst, but sadly over the years this isnt so. As we age presbyopia will get worst. Our vision changes, it is considered a normal part of the aging process and typically becomes noticeable in the 40-45 age bracket. Fortunately, the over 40 crowd has more choices than their parents when it comes to correcting near vision. Todays baby boomers can choose from: Reading glasses many frame styles and lens colors to choose from. Multifocals for those needing a little help seeing close-up, as well as a little farther out. Computer glasses get headaches or blurred vision looking at your computer screen? You may need intermediate vision correction, glasses designed for the intermediate zone. Trifocals offering 3 prescriptions in one lens. The wearer can focus on objects through different points in the lens when looking at different distances. How about bifocal contact lenses offering the convenience of contacts and providing the ability to see both far and near. Bifocal contacts are very popular today in fashion, for convenience and because they are so affordable. Cosmetic contact lenses colored lenses and [http://crazy-n-colored-contact-lenses.com/spcl-efft-cont.shtml] special effects lenses to both correct your vision and enhance your appearance. Eye surgery both laser surgery and Conductive Keratoplasty are used to correct farsightedness. Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) is a non laser procedure for baby boomers with trouble seeing in the near and intermediate range. Today, there is no reason to limit your vision. The eye care industry offers a lens or solution for almost any vision problem. See your eye doctor to find out your options. Those over 40 should be seeing an eye doctor at least every 2 years. Fantastically Unique Centerpieces Make a Wedding Memorable

By David Skul A couple wanting to really impress the guests at their wedding should invest in truly unique centerpieces. Typically, most reception facilities do not provide a great deal of creativity in the decorations because they usually utilize standard table linens and place settings. However, utilizing unique centerpieces is a great way for the wedding hosts to make their reception memorable. Using live fish in centerpieces is a unique idea for a wedding reception. Glass bowls can be used with a few glass marbles or beads along with some exotic and colorful fish. A person could even include a small amount of fish food at the table where children will be sitting with instructions on how to avoid hurting the fish. The kids will have fun and will be less distractive if there was a more traditional centerpiece on the table. This lively and interactive centerpiece is a sure fire hit idea with kids and will even keep adults occupied. Another great centerpiece idea is to place board games at each table. The idea is very unique and usually the attendees choose to play the games; the games also provide the guests at the table the incentive to introduce and have conversations with those seated at the table if they dont know them. This is a great option for people who do not like dancing because they will not perceive being left out of the wedding. Pastries or cakes arranged on a tray and decorated with fresh flowers also make a lovely centerpiece. These sweets can be used to replace of the wedding cake. This often speeds up receptions and makes the logistics of large wedding parties getting a piece of cake simpler. Using several pastries as centerpieces is extremely unique but it also allows the guest to select from several different types of pasties and flavors. These centerpieces can be accompanied by traditional wait staff and the pastries and cakes prepared in the kitchen for desert or they can be sliced at the individual tables for additional esthetic value. An attractive journal that accompanies the theme of the wedding along with several pens will also provide a unique centerpiece. This type of centerpiece will look lovely on the table and should be used by the guests to write messages of congratulations or advice for the couple in the future. The couple has a unique centerpiece and they also have a treasured souvenir of their wedding day in the kindred words recorded by their guests. Love My Wedding Favors

By Brian Brogan My wife and I remember well the process of picking favors for our wedding some 30 years ago now. At the time I never new what wedding favors were untill I saw what my wife had picked out. So please allow me to explain the term wedding favors to those of you who were like me A favor is a small gift for the wedding attendees. Its an allegedly useful item that is usually made of glass or metal. (Cheap plastic and light cardboard dont seem special enough for most..) There is often a beautiful ribbon, or sometimes a candle involved in the favor and it probably has some inscription to commemorate the event or at least a card on wedding stationery. Favor, “A small gift given to a guest at a party”, is one of the definitions. To my way of thinking, you are not only obligated to your wedding guests on this day of days but you should see the giving of a wedding favor as a sign of you and your new husbands gratitude to your guests for sharing this most memorable day in both your lifes, and if all goes well, your guests too. Apparently there are some who see no point to the giving of wedding favors and have said it is done just to avoid embarrassing ourselves in front of the Pope or Martha Stewart or whoever else we invited. Unfortunately for these people, and I know they are out there, the thought of “giving” is not in their vocabulary. If showing some form of gratitude to your guests is a bad thing then why are they there for you and your new partner at all? Off the top of my head, I cannot think of any of my friends or family that would judge us by the quality of the wedding favors, but on the other hand they would appreciate the effort we put into showing our gratitude for them being witness to our most splendid of events. A common theory already judged helpful from talking to my married friends is that you should agree on a price-per-favor that is within your wedding budget and it would be something that you would be happy to recieve for yourself at a friends wedding. As an idea on price you would really have to make up your own minds but in general terms anything from five dollars up would be acceptable. Truly the sky is the limit. I suppose it really has to do again with the wedding budget. Luckily there are a plethera of wedding favours to choose from on the market today so finding just the right one should be a snap. Wedding Favors Ideas Sending your guests home with a little something to remember the night by is a classy touch to any wedding. And they don’t have to be over priced gifts to make a lasting impression. The choice really boils down to, “Do I buy my wedding favors or make them? You are probably finding out that when it comes to the list of things to do for your wedding, you may already be feeling overwhelmed. So why make another chore for yourself with homemade wedding favors? Favors can be easily purchased then all you have to do is personalize them.. Of course, homemade wedding favors do feel more special. Sachets and small tokens are simple to create in an afternoon. You may even decide to enlist the help of the wedding party or make this a special time for you and your partner. If you’ve ever been to another wedding, you may have already seen an asortment of wedding favors which may have included, small bags of candies or nuts decoratively done, small boxes of chocolate with a nice ribbon or card indicating the the couple and wedding date are very nice favors too. Many couples have chosen to give personalized wedding favors mentioning the bride and groom like match books, candles with holders, champagne glasses, and even CDs can be inscribed with the wedding date as a way to commemorate the day. If you want to be unique For the non-traditional bride and groom, you may want to give a little something different. If you have a themed wedding, you can try to give a gift that incorporates that theme. In any case, as I mentioned earlier, the wedding favors are a great way to commemorate a special day for both the bride and groom and their guests. Thank your relatives and friends for supporting you and loving you enough to be with you on this happiest of days. Little Known Dating Tips, Secrets, and Dating Mistakes

By John Alanis I hear it over and overIt was going so great, and then she disappeared on me why? What happenedwe were having such a great time together. Im tired of this happeningI want to date sexy women, but I want them to stick around. Do you have any dating tips for me? Yes, I do. Every time I talk to a guy who tells me this, I discover hes making the exact same mistakes most guys do, dating mistakes that kill his chances of successfully dating sexy women. So, I give him some dating tips to skyrocket his success with sexy women. Here are the most common ones: Dating tip #1: Dont date. Yes, thats rightdont date. Think about a traditional dateits full of pressure, awkwardness, evaluation and it just plain sucks. What do you do on a traditional date? Dinner, movie, kiss goodnight, she doesnt return your calls. Or you have drinks, and try to make your move, and we all know where that ends up. Much better (and cheaper) to meet for coffeeits fun and relaxed with none of the normal dating expectations. Dating tip #2: The less you do and say, the more shes attracted to you. Most guys try to impress sexy women, or lay a rap on them. Sexy women have heard it all before. But, if you ask her about herself, shut up and listen, and display a SMALL degree of interest, shell begin to wonder why youre not slobbering all over her. Shell want to discover more now youre a challenge, and sexy women love challenging guys. Why? Because they rarely meet one. This is a HUGE dating tip. Dating tip #3 Be a naughty little boy. Another big dating tip. Remember the class clown in elementary schoolthe guy who was cool and funny all at the same time? When youre talking to sexy women, make unexpected and mischievous comments, the kind that leave them thinking, I cant believe he just said that but I like it. This shows sexy women youre NOT impressed by their looks, that you need to see more. This is so different from what theyre used to they cant help but be attracted. I cannot emphasize the importance of this dating tip. Dating tip #4 Avoid all canned pick up lines, laying a rap, or any type of acting. Sexy women have heard it all before, and as soon as you spout one, youre instantly a JAG (just another guy). And JAGs dont get sexy womenremember this dating tip! Dating tip #5 Sexy women are approached and hit on 20 to 30 times a day. This is their worldto get into it, you have to be different from the 20 guys whove already talked to her. (see Dating tip #3 for how to be different to sexy women). Dating tip #6 Look out for her tests. Sexy women (indeed, all women) will test you to see if youll stand up to them. If you cant stand up to her, you cant stand up for her. If she asks you to buy her things, thats a testand a perfect opportunity to be a naughty little boy (see Dating tip #3). Say something like, What do I look like an ATM machine? You should buy ME something, just for the privilege of spending time with me. I like sexy women who buy me things! This is said in a playfulyet firmmanner that lets her know youre onto her. When you pass their tests, it drives sexy women wild with desire. Very important dating tip. Dating tip #7 Date multiple sexy women at once, and make sure the others know about it. Sexy women love a man who is attractive to other sexy women, and will compete to win you. (Heres another dating tip: for proof of this, read any good romance novel). If you want to settle down, you can choose one, but she will always know youre desired by other sexy womenand in a strange way, this creates even more attraction for you. This dating tip really is a secret, but it works very well with sexy women. OK, guys, thats it for this article. Obviously there are lots of other dating tips, tricks and secrets to put to use, but if you pay attention to these dating tips, youll be a heckuva lot more successful with sexy women. Zen Buddhism

By Sharon White Zen Buddhism is certainly the division of Buddhism that is the hardest to explain. According to Zen, you cant describe it in words, thus have to experience it personally. Though it has had great success in its Western advances, Zen has roots strong in Southeast Asia, where it arrived in roughly 520 AD from the India, the motherland of Buddhism. Buddhism developed in India as a nonconformist counterpart to the local dominating religion that is Hinduism. It denied the authority of the caste system and did not accept the importance and value of the extensive Vedic rites and rituals. Eventually, Buddhism was near extinguished from India, as the Hindu religion adopted more and more of its philosophical practices and the line between the two became blurred. Both religions have faith in the notion of reincarnation, karma, and the end goal of Nirvana, or absolute liberation. But roughly 1000 years after the birth of the Buddah and the start of this religion, Buddhism began to change and spread throughout the surrounding areas. Indias trade routes served as an incredible vehicle of influence for religion and philosophy. Because of its international connections, many important people traveled to such great lengths as China and Japan. One such man was Bodhi-Dharma, who landed in 520 AD in China during the reign of Emperor Wu. Bodhi-Dharma went on to be the father of the Zen school of Buddhism in China. He reportedly described Zen as a special transmission outside of the scriptures. There is no need for dependence on words and lettersSeeing into ones nature, which is identical with all reality, justifies Buddha-life and led to the attainment of Buddhahood. He passed along his teachings to Hui-ko, and it was under the Third Patriarch that Zen fell under the influence of Taoism, which avows that one should ignore societal requirements and seek nothing artificial or unnatural, just those things which are aligned with the processes of nature. This wasnt the last modification; Zen continued to transform and change over time. Although many people today know this religion as Zen, it wasnt until it had reached Japan that it acquired its present day nomenclature. In China, it is still referred to as Chan. By the seventh century, Zen had reached Japan. It was not until the twelfth century that a monastery in Kyoto was founded and the religion took off. By this time, the school had been split into two followings in China; they formed Japanese counterparts quickly. The two lasting approaches to Buddhism are Rinzai and Soto. Rinzai focuses on sudden enlightenment through irrational teaching puzzles or meditation problems; there are known as koan. Its counterpart, the Soto sect, advocates the pursuit of zazen, or cross legged meditation with an empty mind and silent lips. Soto does not believe in the sudden enlightenment that is offered by Rinzai. As the Buddhist traditions were losing popularity in China, these forms of Zen grew quickly in Japan. The medieval military men in Japan grasped Buddhism eagerly. It became a warrior creed for many, because they believed it called for action, intense self discipline and for scorn of death. Here it was mixed with small aspects of Shintoism and utilized by the Japanese as justification for their belligerent wartime activities. When one practices Zen, the objective is to reach Satori, which is described as a sort of inner perception of Reality itself. It is also explained to be the world of non-descrimination, non-differentiation, or two-ness becomes one-ness and yet equally seen as two. Unfortunately, little is written on how to reach this cryptically depicted state of enlightenment, but what is surely the right way to start is to restrain ones mind to the point of total control, perhaps through the employment of Dhyana. This technique enables a follower to relax the body and banish thought so that one may focus entirely on the koan practices. Two examples of koan problems are: A sound is made by the clapping of two hands. What is the sound of one hand? and When the Many are reduced to the One, to what is the One to be reduced? These types of questions usually involve a choice between two responses, neither of with is realistic or even possible, causing the seeker to reflect on the problem of life, according to Zen. Students must realize that in life, they must surpass the two earthly alternatives of assertion and denial, which hide the Truth and are not realistic options. Zen represents a true blending of cultures and the Easts power of influence over the west. R.H. Blyth has written that Zen is the most precious possession of Asia. With its beginnings in India, development in China, and final practical application in Japan, it is today the strongest power in the world. This faith has had a lasting relationship with each culture it touches, because it has found a way to transcend rituals, written records, and the standard activities that others require. Even when the believers were persecuted in India or China, they were able to continue practicing because they did not rely on the written texts, statues or concrete representations that were often demolished by those seeking to do away with Buddhism. Blyths statement is a testament to the devotion that many have to Zen, which has had a strong impact on the Western world. The article was produced by the member of masterpapers.com.
